Redevelopment and new construction, 5 lofts
Viale Monza, Milan, 2024
The renovation project involved an entire lot located in the inner courtyard of a typical block in the North Loreto area, which is undergoing a major housing and commercial revaluation in downtown Milan. The lot, formerly hosting a blacksmith workshop, has being transformed into a sequence of double-height housing units, despite a quite complex advisory process. The project, developed by ZPSTUDIO in collaboration with Al14, carefully preserved the original industrial character, bringing back to life the rough iron structures that form the functional framework, as well as the visual impact, of these units. The large living area conceals a service space and kitchenette, and the staircase leads to the loft bed with wardrobe. Full-height windows overlook the small garden belonging to each loft, and give exceptional brightness, considering it’s a ground floor in the city center. Total intervention: 5 lofts from 60 to 70 sq m, each with access from the 20 sq m private garden.
